Apostolate publishes fourth edition of family catechism
By Catholic News Service
BLOOMINGDALE, Ohio (CNS) -- The Apostolate for Family Consecration has put out a new unabridged edition of its family catechism written by Divine Word Father Lawrence Lovasik.
The fourth edition of "The Apostolate's Family Catechism" features updated cross-references to the U.S. Catholic Catechism for Adults, Pope Benedict XVI's first two encyclicals and other documents.
As with previous editions, the new edition contains 304 questions pertaining to the creed, the sacraments, prayer and the Ten Commandments. Commentaries for the questions are given by Cardinal Francis Arinze, prefect of the Vatican's Congregation for Divine Worship and the Sacraments.
Answers include quotes from Scripture, the Catechism of the Catholic Church, the Second Vatican Council, papal documents and other theological writings.
A section called "By Heart Catechism and Scripture Review" offers explanations for easy memorization of the doctrines presented. Also featured are exercises related to doctrine, moral theology and worship; a "Thought Provokers" section with answers; common prayers in English and Latin; and more than 800 theological illustrations.
Commentaries by Cardinal Arinze on audio and video, as well as discussion guides, can be downloaded for free at the apostolate's Web site, www.familyland.org. Supplementary teaching guides and age-appropriate workbooks also can be ordered for use in elementary and high school settings.
