In his apostolic exhortation, 'Africae Munus' ('The Commitment of Africa'), Pope Benedict XVI includes remarks on the theme of 'living in harmony.' His comments touch on a variety of topics.
Calling families 'the sanctuary of life,' the pope encourages families to be communities of reconciliation, forgiveness and prayer. Parents, he says, are 'the first heralds of the Gospel for their children.' The world, the pope says, can learn from the traditional deep respect that African cultures maintain for the elderly, who enrich families and communities across the generations.
