It is possible for people to reside at very close quarters without acknowledging much of anything that is good in each other. It happens all the time.
Consider, for example, a wife and husband who seem only to find fault with each other. Their shortage of kindness is costly for them. Perhaps one or both of them fails consistently to pay attention to what the other feels is important.
